My Process

I needed some logo's for my 'companies' for the back of my digipak, so I searched 'A' and this was one of the more interesting ones that came up, so I edited it into negative so that it would work well on my back cover.
This was my second logo, I did the same as the last, searched the letter 'K' and liked this one so I edited it to negative once again.

These two images (above and below) were my first drafts. As I wanted it to look as though somebody had painted or drawn it I had to find a few different 'paint' looking edits, as the 'pencil' edits looked boring and strange. This was the first paint edit I found but I later decided that it had far too much black space, although that was kind of my idea, that she is surrounded by darkness, I don't think it works for a digipack, and I don't think it looked enough like it had been painted.

But as you can see below I did try to make this black space work but I didn't think that having the name there looked very good, especially not as good and clear as it being at the top so I ended up just scrapping this draft completely.

The image above was the original photo that I took and the image below is the edit of it that I used as my final front cover image. As you can see there were quite a few things that I had to edit out, for example that pink 'squiggle' on her hair, the colours and light contrast etc. Then I had to crop it to the correct shape and size and add the new paint effect I had decided to use which is much more realistic, it does look like it could have been painted and it has a nice use of all of the colours and the space, still leaving plenty of darkness to give the connotations that i wanted.

These two images are just some of the different ways I tried to place the text on the back on my digipack to see what looked best. I tried arranging the words to create a pattern with the longest and shortest title's but they all looked wrong in some way until I finally decided to go with the third image as it looked more natural and just fitted although I did have to keep changing it to make sure that each space was exactly the same between each title.

Here are some of my original images that I had to choose between:

I almost chose this one but I didn't quite like the face she was pulling and I thought that the lamp was too high.

This one wasn't very flattering therefore would not be as appealing.

Once again it wasn't very flattering and the low angle shot didn't work as her face/head should be very clear but here it's too small.

A high angle shot didn't work either, from this I realised that I needed a straight on view to see more of her face.

She was pulling a weird face in this image again and I still didn't think it was flattering enough , also the top of her head was slightly cut off which to me did not look professional.

These images are the different coloured writing I used to try and decide which stood out best:
This one was a bit too boring and didn't go with my colour scheme.

This orangey yellow did go with my colour scheme but I wasn't too sure, it stood out but also blended in slightly too much with the colours in the image so instead I made this the colour of the title of the album as in my style models that was slightly less noticeable than the artists name so it worked well.

At first I thought white looked alright but once again it didn't really go with my colour scheme very well so in the end I chose red.
Also to help me pick out colours I asked a range of people what their favourites were/which ones looked more professional and they all chose either the orange one or the red one which helped me make a firm decision.
